San Benedetto del Tronto Harbour: what to see & attractions

Recent history of the Harbour of San Benedetto del Tronto

In the 1970s, the Harbour of San Benedetto del Tronto counted a fleet of around 30 ocean-going vessels operating in different parts of the world.

During the 1980s, the local fishing industry experienced strong growth, reaching 212 fishing vessels: about 200 dedicated to coastal and Mediterranean fishing and 12 engaged in ocean fishing in areas such as North America, the Falkland Islands and Somalia. In those years, the harbour also became a national reference point for fish processing.

In recent decades, fishing activity has declined, while the harbour has maintained a central role among Italy’s main fish markets.

At the same time, the harbour area has undergone significant redevelopment works, including the construction of new tourist piers, the expansion of the quays, and targeted interventions aimed at reducing sandy seabed accumulation.
